Is it okay to ask an employer to write an undergraduate college letter of recommendation?

I have been working at the same independent office supply, stationery, and gifts store for my 4th year now. My boss knows about my communication skills and work ethic. I already have 4 academic teachers sending in recommendations for me, but is it okay for my boss to send a recommendation in for me as well?
